Welcome to Cinemart Cinemas — a neighborhood movie theater with nearly a century of history at the heart of Forest Hills, Queens.

Originally opened on March 10, 1927 as the historic Metropolis Theatre, our cinema has welcomed generations of movie lovers through changing eras of film, from the golden age of Hollywood to today’s digital cinema experience. Over the decades, the theater evolved through several names and transformations, eventually becoming the beloved Cinemart known throughout Queens today.

Recognized by the Queens Historical Society as the oldest continuously operated independent movie theater in Queens, Cinemart has remained a neighborhood gathering place for generations of movie lovers since 1927.

As we proudly approach our 100 Year Anniversary in 2027, we celebrate not only the history of this theater, but the community that kept it alive for a century. Families who came as children now bring their grandchildren. First dates became lifelong memories. Independent films, classics, foreign cinema, blockbusters, and local premieres have all found a home here.

Unlike corporate multiplexes, Cinemart has always remained deeply connected to its neighborhood roots. We believe moviegoing should still feel personal, welcoming, and affordable. Our mission is simple: preserve the magic of the traditional cinema experience while continuing to evolve for new generations.

Today, Cinemart features luxury powered recliner seating, modern digital projection, RealD 3D presentation, and a carefully curated mix of mainstream, independent, and specialty programming — all while honoring the character and soul of a historic neighborhood theater.

The story of Cinemart is ultimately a story of survival. In an age when many historic theaters disappeared, this theater endured through changing technologies, economic challenges, streaming competition, and the transformation of New York City itself. Its survival is a tribute to the loyalty of the Forest Hills community and to everyone who still believes that movies are best experienced together on the big screen.
